David Luiz believes that he will partner Gary Cahill in defence
Chelsea defender David Luiz is winning his battling to be fit for the Champions League final on May 19 against Bayern Munich.
The Blues are facing a centre-back crisis which could scupper their chances of lifting Europe’s premier domestic title.
With John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic suspended for the showpiece final in Munich, Luiz and Gary Cahill would be the expected defensive partnership.
But both are currently out of action after picking up hamstring injuries last month.
“Everything is improving, I don’t have any more injuries, I have one good leg now,” he joked.
“I work every day, and i am doing everything I need to do to be ready for the Champions League final. It was fantastic for us to win the FA Cup and now I have another final in a couple of week’s time.
”And this is a great moment in my career, I need to work hard every day to be ready for it.”
The Brazilian revealed the lengths he has been going to in order to return to full fitness.
“I have been training on my own, but I think this week I will be back working with the squad,” he added.
“I hope to get at least one game in before the final, it would be better or me.
“I don’t know who it will be against, I will check today with the coach if I will play tomorrow against Liverpool or on Sunday against Blackburn, but I don’t need to come back too early - it must be at the right moment, but I think I’ll come back before the final. I know my own body and will be able to tell the manager if I am ready to play.”
Luiz knows that time is running out for him and Cahill to be ready for Bayern but is confident that both will be there and prepared.
“It is important to get the centre back partnership sorted out as soon as possible,” he admitted.
“We are missing four fantastic players through suspension and Chelsea need me to be 100 per cent, not just 90 per cent.
It is just one game and I am working hard all these days and weeks for this game
”This is the Champions League final, I give my life for this title , it’s the dream for all the players in the world to play. “Now I am very happy and I want finish the season with two titles and not just one.”
