Roy Hodgson hailed the Blues after they won the Champions League
England manager Roy Hodgson hailed Chelsea’s performance in the Champions League final.
The Blues triumphed after a dramatic penalty shoot-out to become the first London club to lift the famous trophy.
“They were all excellent and it was an excellent Chelsea performance,” Hodgson told Sky Sports News.
“The team was quite fantastic, it’s a great, great success, not only for Chelsea but for the whole of English football.
“Let’s just hope that some of the players there last night can take some of that form into the Euros because if they can play as well as that then they will boost our chances.”
Hodgson was not surprised to see an English club triumphing in Europe’s premier club competition.
“I don’t think there’s any doubts in Europe about England’s capacity and how good the Barclays Premier League is and how good English teams are,” Hodgson added.
“Chelsea have come last night to Munich, they’ve played Bayern in their home stadium and there was no doubt really which was the home team last night and they’ve given a quite fantastic performance, both defensively and also attacked very effectively.
“For once, of course, it’s nice to see we in England can win a penalty shootout - that bodes well for the future, I guess.”
