Avram Grant, the former West Ham and Portsmouth manager, defended Andre Villas-Boas
Former Chelsea manager Avram Grant believes the Blues need to give under-fire manager Andre Villas-Boas time, despite the west London club’s recent poor form.
Chelsea are without a win in their last five league games, with their latest setback a 2-0 to Everton on Saturday where the fans chanted 'You don’t know what you’re doing' at Villas-Boas.
However one of his predecessors has come to his defence.
"When you sign a young coach, you have to give him some time," the former Portsmouth and West Ham boss told Yahoo!
"He will do good things if he is given time to show what he knows.
"One of the things I learned at Chelsea is that you have to handle things that go on off the park. It is not just a football club.
"Villas-Boas is a very nice guy and did good things at Porto, but he needs time."
Grant was sacked by Chelsea after missing out on the Premier League title on the final day and losing the Champions League final on penalties – both to Manchester United.
