Roberto Di Matteo said he was happy with his team’s performance against QPR, with just a lack of a goal a “disappointment’

The two west London rivals played out a 0-0 draw but the Italian thought his side were the more dominant.

He said: “Because of the history and rivalry between the two sides, I though we did well.

“My only disappointment was that we did not score a goal - we controlled the game.”

Di Matteo, while never furious vocally, could not hide his dismay at the lack of at least one of two genuine penalty shouts.

“The incident with Ryan Nelsen, well, it was a stonewall penalty,” he exclaimed.

“The second, with Hazard? There was contact [from Wright-Phillips], but Terry’s was 100 per cent,” repeated the Chelsea boss.

Fearing that he might be seen to be critical of referee Andre Mariner, Di Matteo added: “It’s a difficult job, being a ref - he has to make an instant decision.”

On the contentious pre-match handshakes, Di Matteo did not want to elaborate but was happy to say that: ”We offered to shake hands, we did our part.”

Di Matteo added of the match: “We should focus on the football, not the handshakes. Our guys did not have a problem with this, it was just another case of not scoring. On another day we would have.

“I’m not concerned that we did not score - normally we do. If we continue to create chances then we will.”

Fernando Torres appeared to storm down the tunnel following his substitution but Di Matteo had words of comfort for his £50m striker.

“No player is happy when taken off, it’s not a problem,” the manager said.

Chelsea now turn their attention to Juventus at Stamford Bridge, on Wednesday in the opening match of this season’s Champions League group matches.
