Goalkeeper Jose Reina is also making good progress in his recovery from a similar problem and is not yet ruled out, although the following week’s clash with Wigan may be more realistic for the Spaniard.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is set to restore most of his first-choice line-up after resting a number of stars for Thursday’s Europa League clash against Anzhi Makhachkala in Moscow.

Provisional squad: Jones, Gulacsi, Reina, Wisdom, Agger, Skrtel, Coates, Carragher, Enrique, Johnson, Downing, Allen, Sahin, Gerrard, Shelvey, Henderson, Assaidi, Yesil, Suso, Suarez, Sterling.
