The Chelsea interim head coach has warned against complacency when the Blues take on Benfica in the Champions League quarter final second leg
Chelsea interim head coach Roberto Di Matteo has insisted that his side will not be complacent when the Blues take on Benfica in the Champions League quarter final second leg tomorrow at Stamford Bridge.
The west Londoners are 1-0 up in the tie and have the crucial away goal after Salomon Kalou’s strike in Lisbon.
“We won’t switch off and we know that only 50 per cent has been done and the qualification is over two games,” Di Matteo said.
“We’ve put ourselves in a good position but Benfica, away from home, are a very strong side and they are capable of scoring as well so there will be no complacency from our side at all.”
Chelsea duo Didier Drogba and David Luiz are doubts after the former missed the 4-2 win over Aston Villa on Saturday, while the latter hobbled off before half time.
“We’ll have to see what players are there for Wednesday,” Di Matteo added. “We’ll have to look at the freshness of the team.
“We’re playing every three days. We need a team that has a lot of energy.”
The Champions League tie marks the mid-point in the Blues’ run of four games in 10 days, with the west Londoners facing Wigan and Fulham over the Easter weekend.
