Chelsea interim head coach Roberto Di Matteo has revealed why Didier Drogba missed the 4-2 win over Aston Villa yesterday.

The Ivory Coast international had picked up a knock on his foot in training and was unable to face the Villans and could miss the Champions League quarter final second leg against Benfica on Wednesday.

“He had a knock on his foot in training and couldn’t make it for today,” Di Matteo said.

“He’s another one we’ll have to assess for the next 48 hours.”

In Drogba’s absence the Blues scored goals through Daniel Sturridge, a Branislav Ivanovic brace and Fernando Torres grabbed his first league goal since September 24.
