New Chelsea signings impress Di Matteo as Chelsea kick-off their pre-season tour of the USA in style
Eden Hazard and Marko Marin scored on their Chelsea debuts as the Blues got their pre-season tour of the USA off to a winning start.
The new recruits’ goals came in between two strikes from Hazard’s Belgian countryman Romelu Lukaku, as all of the games’ six goals flew in during an action-packed first half.
Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo was delighted with his new signings, saying: “It is good for Marko and Eden to score in their first game for the club and it was good to see they have a good understanding with their new team-mates.
“I’m pleased with the game and performance - it was everything we were looking for from our first pre-season game, it was a good work out.
“I felt we showed good energy, the new players integrated in well and showed the talent coming through can be the future of this club,” he added.
Di Matteo was particularly impressed by £32million man Hazard, who opened his Chelsea account with a deflected strike after just 11 minutes.
“He can have a great impact in the Premier League next season,” said Di Matteo of the 21-year-old playmaker. “He has great qualities and you can see that everyday in training,” he continued.
