Sports Minister Hugh Robertson has congratulated Chelsea after their dramatic Champions League success after a penalty shoot-out.

Didier Drogba’s 88th-minute header cancelled out Thomas Muller’s strike five minutes earlier, then Petr Cech saved Arjen Robben’s extra-time penalty before the Ivory Coast striker was again the hero with the winning strike in the shoot-out.

Robertson said: “Congratulations to Roberto Di Matteo, his players and all at the club on their fantastic achievement in Munich. It is the end of a long journey for many at Chelsea to lift this trophy.

“Coming after the arrival of the Olympic flame, it marks the start of a fantastic summer of sport.”
