Jorge Jesus vows to make the Ivorian pay after he was caught allegedly mocking the Protuguese side
Benfica coach Jorge Jesus has hit out at Didier Drogba after Chelsea TV broadcast footage of the Blues watching the Champions League draw, where the Ivorian was seen pretending to shake with fear.
The west Londoners claim that the 34-year-old was not mocking their upcoming opponents, but Jorge was left fuming after watching the footage.
“Only Drogba knows what he was thinking. I cannot say for certain that he was joking or mocking our value,” he said.
“But he has no reason to do that or think about us like that, about Benfica or Portuguese football.
“I think he should remember what has happened in Europe this season, that Benfica eliminated Manchester United from the Champions League and Sporting Lisbon knocked Manchester City out of the Europa League.
“So our teams have already beaten the two top teams in the Premier League.
“I don’t think anyone can doubt the value of Portuguese football. The players of Benfica and Benfica will give their answer on the field. We will show we are better than Drogba and Chelsea.”
Brazilian team-mate David Luiz, who joined the Blues from Benfica defended Drogba’s actions.
“If people watch the video closely it was not directed at Benfica - but about avoiding Barcelona because they are a big team and Marseille [Drogba’s former team], too,” he said.
“I know Drogba, know the person he is and we know Benfica are a strong team. Didier’s character wouldn’t allow him to disrespect another team.”
