The two west London rivals are in talks about how to deal with the ritual following the court trial that saw the Blues captain was found not guilty of using a racial slur against the Hoops defender.

But for the West Ham manager there is a simple solution and Allardyce said: “If you think you are going to run into a problem, it would be easy for both managers to ask both sets of players and then to contact each other and say the will or they won’t.

“If they won’t, don’t do it, because all it’s going to do is distract from the game and be a big load of headlines from you lot [media], writing about that instead of writing about the game.”
