Surrey will face Essex, Hampshire, Kent, Middlesex and Sussex in their Twenty20 group games and the bowler believes his side could go all the way

Surrey bowler Jon Lewis believes that his side have all bases covered ahead of the Twenty20 campaign.

Australia’s Dirk Nannes has joined as the south Londoners second overseas player, alongside Murali Kartik and Lewis is excited by the prospect of the former Holland international.

“We’ve got Dirk Nannes coming into the Twenty20 side,” Lewis told London24.

“He looks a very relaxed man and he can bowl very fast so there’s a lot of skills coming in.”

Surrey have one of the best bowling attacks on paper with the express pace of Nannes, Stuart Meaker, Jade Dernbach and Chris Tremlett.

The quartet are complemented by the accuracy of Lewis and the spin combination of Gareth Batty and Kartik and this gives Surrey director of cricket, Chris Adams, a major selection headache.

“It’s a powerful squad of bowlers,” Lewis added. “It’s a powerful squad of batters as well, however the key thing is how we do it on the field.

“While we will have pace up top, our spin options will be crucial as well.

“You have to have a rounded attack and it gives the management team the great opportunity to pick the side for any type of cricket.

“If you have a lot of bowling options it makes it easier but it’s very important to put a performance on the field.

“We’re all very good bowlers on paper”

Surrey will face Essex, Hampshire, Kent, Middlesex and Sussex in their Twenty20 group games and Lewis feels his side have the potential to go all the way.

“We’re one of the teams to beat,” Lewis added.

“I’ve not played much cricket in the southern region.

“It’s a very strong group with Sussex, Essex, Surrey, Middlesex, Hampshire and Kent – who are all good sides as well.

“It’s going to be a tough competition and I feel this squad can compete with any in the country at this form of cricket.”

Surrey’s first game in the competition is against Sussex on June 13.
