Stuart Meaker was left frustrated as rain forced the third day of Surrey’s County Championship match with Durham abandoned without a ball being bowled

Surrey fast bowler Stuart Meaker is looking at other County Championship games with envy after their game with Durham was washed out for the third day in a row.

A ball has yet to be bowled at the Oval and with tomorrow’s forecast looking equally grim a draw seems highly likely.

“I think it’s frustrating from the point of view that there are a few other games that have gone on and teams have picked up a couple of first innings points,” Meaker told London24.

“Later on, towards the end of the year, those points will be vital for whoever gets them.

“The fact we can’t get on and have a bowl or bat at the moment and pick up a few first innings wickets or runs.

“It’s incredibly frustrating. You saw in the game against Middlesex where we narrowly lost by three runs, which was disappointing and we nearly had a result against Worcester here.

“We keep missing out on a couple of points to push our case forward.

“It’s still early days. Hopefully we get some cricket in and some good results from those games.”

With the rain flooding The Oval’s outfield the Surrey players have had to find ways of passing the time.

“We’ve had the odd game of indoor football,” Meaker added.

“There have been a few heated games going on there with the lads getting out their frustrations of sitting in the dressing room all day.

“We’ve had a few net sessions and been in the gym.

“The rest of the time we’ve sat around the dressing room talking nonsense. There’s not a lot you can do really.”

This season, the 23-year-old has taken 11 wickets for Surrey, at an average of 17.55, including a career best 6-39 against Worcestershire last week.
