Clayton Donaldson’s ninth-minute header gave Brentford a 1-0 win at Portsmouth.

It extended the Bees unbeaten run in League Two to three games while comdenming Pompey to as many matches without a win.

The decisive moment came early in the game when Brentford hitman Donaldson rose to nod home Adam Forshaw’s free-kick. It stretched the striker’s tally to eight for the campaign and was his second in three days after he netted in the 2-0 FA Cup first round win over Boreham Wood on Saturday.

The hosts’ best chance came when Lubomir Michalik sent Izale McLeod through only for the forward to fire wide.

The victory leaves Brentford two points outside the play-off positions though Doncaster, in sixth, have played one game less.
