Former Juventus, Barcelona, Spurs and Crystal Palace man Edgar Davids has revealed he is registered as an amateur player at Barnet, and therefore doesn’t earn a penny for playing.

The Dutch legend joined the League Two strugglers as joint-head coach earlier this month and inspired the Bees to a thumping 4-0 win over Northampton when he took to the pitch for his debut last week.

“I am an amateur. I get nothing. Absolutely nothing,” the 39-year-old told NUsport.

“I did not know anyone at the club. They invited me for an interview and I went to have a look and liked what I saw”, Davids told NUsport.

“When I saw the training ground, I was positively surprised. Also, they have plans for a new stadium.”

“I’m getting the opportunity to share my football vision, develop my coaching skills and get my coaching qualifications, coaching with Mark Robson and Uli Landvreugd.

“I also keep playing and I have taken this opportunity with both hands.”
