AFC Wimbledon boss: Plymouth want to take our Football League status

The Dons face the Pilgrims at Kingsmeadow tonight

AFC Wimbledon manager Terry Brown has called on his side to show team spirit and camaraderie but warned them that they face a fight to survive in League Two.

The Dons play Plymouth tonight, who are nine points behind the south west Londoners and occupy the final relegation spot.

Wimbledon lost 2-1 to struggling Hereford, who are only two points clear of Plymouth on Saturday and Brown is looking to preserve their Football League status as quickly as possible.

“When you are winning games it is easy to have that team spirit and camaraderie,” Brown said.

“I said to the boys that we had earned the right to be in this league and that Plymouth are coming here to take your Football League status away from you.

“We have to address that early and get points on the board quickly.”

Wimbledon have three consecutive games at home against struggling Plymouth (23rd), Dagenham & Redbridge (22nd) and Bradford (18th), who are all scrapping for their Football League status.

“This particular group falls down on doing the ugly side of things,” he added.

“It falls down on defending from the front, in midfield, and defending from the back.

“If we do those things then we are a match for anybody in this league, whether that is Crawley or Cheltenham.

“We have to make sure that we match the heart, fight and spirit of these teams scrapping for their lives at the bottom.”
