Transfer news: Premier League clubs look set to be disappointed in the race for David Villa after Barcelona president Sandro Rosell announced that they plan to keep him next season.

Villa has been persistently linked with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool in recent months amid reports that he has become unsettled at the Camp Nou.

But the 31-year-old striker insisted he is happy with life at Barcelona earlier this month and suitors have been dealt a further blow after Rosell today ruled out a summer exit for the Spain star.

Villa is currently in Brazil preparing for the Confederations Cup with his county, and Rosell insists he will be welcomed back to Barcelona next season, despite being in the final year of his contract.

The Barca chief said in a press conference: “Villa remains a Barcelona player until we say otherwise, and he will continue to be next season. We will support him in that.”
