Professional footballers took to Twitter to express their best wishes towards Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba.

Muamba will remain in intensive care for at least the next 24 hours after the Bolton midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest during yesterday’s FA Cup tie at Tottenham.

Tottenham striker Louis Saha admitted he had trouble sleeping after seeing yesterday’s events.

“Morning #twittersfair. Was hard2 sleep after Muamba scene. I’m sure it is things u remember, that have changed u forever. #LotOfLoveFab,” he tweeted.

Spurs midfielder Tom Huddlestone tweeted: “Thoughts with fab and his family! Feel sick watching this, puts football+everything else into perspective.”

Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor also took to the social networking site tweeting: “Doesn’t matter who he plays for..... Doesn’t matter who you support.......... Doesn’t matter if you aren’t a football fan...... Doesn’t matter if you aren’t religious........ Pray for Fabrice Muamba.”

Another Spurs player, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, who was nearby as Muamba was undergoing treatment tweeted:“Respect 2 the medical staff who has saved Fab’s life 4 sure. 2 all of the fans who were @ WHL: incredible!”

Muamba spent two years with Arsenal before moving to Birmingham and former team-mates also expressed their sadness.

Gunners star Robin van Persie also expressed his concerns on the social networking site.

“I so sad about what happened to Fabrice Muamba today,” he tweeted. “Played with him 4 a couple of years. What a great guy. Always a smile on his face.

“Please Fabrice bring that smile back my thoughts are with u and ur lovely family!”

Fellow professionals at other London clubs have also expressed their concerns and well-wishes.

Concern for Muamba will cast a shadow over crucial Premier League and FA Cup matches that are being played today.

The 23-year-old former Arsenal and Birmingham midfielder has numerous friends across the game and several have tweeted their support for Muamba.

“Everybody with you Fabrice #PrayForMuamba “@chelseafc: Thoughts and prayers of all at Chelsea are with Fabrice Muamba and his family,” Juan Mata tweeted.

Fulham star John Arne Riise also tweeted: “ Lets all keep praying for him to have a speedy recovery. Well done to Paramedics and both teams medical”
