Maarten Stekelenburg insists he had no contact from the Gunners last year

Holland goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has denied rumours that he was close to joining Arsenal last year.

Reports claimed that the Roma stopper was going to join the Gunners but, instead, signed for the Italian giants.

“That’s strange and funny, because I also read it in the newspapers,” he told insidefutbol.

“To be frank though, my manager and I never had any contact with Arsenal.”
