Transfer news: Victor Moses has been linked with a move away from Wigan

After leaving Crystal Palace for Wigan two years ago to fulfill his Premiership dream, young Nigerian winger Victor Moses looks to be returning to the capital, as the city’s biggest clubs vie for the versatile attacker’s signature.

After Latics chairman Dave Whelan dismissed an offer of £4 million from Chelsea, describing it as “rubbish”. His price tag has subsequently risen to £10 million, a sum which both the Blues and now Arsenal are believed to be interested in paying for the pacy Moses. However, Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has said he expects to see Moses stay at the DW stadium for at least another season.

2011/2012 was the 21-year-old’s breakthrough season, shining in a perenially struggling Wigan team, going on to score six goals and a create six assists in 38 appearances in all competitions.

Moses’s versatility is perhaps his biggest asset, being equally adept on both flanks, behind the striker or as the sole forward. He is pacy and is definitely not afraid to shoot. Last season, he scored goals with his right foot, his left foot and his head, from poachers goals to cultured curling finishes.

Impressively, he completed the most successful dribbles (89 of them) of any player in the Premiership last season, streets ahead of second placed Scott Sinclair on 64, his skill with the ball at his feet allowing goal-scoring opportunities to be created for himself and others.

While Chelsea are still interested, Theo Walcott’s reluctance to sign his new contract at the Emirates has seen Moses emerge as an Arsenal target as an ideal replacement for Walcott, his raw attributes and age being viewed as perfect to mould into the complete package.
