Inter Milan have revealed they do not have the transfer funds to launch a January bid for Shakhtar Donetsk forward Willian.

The highly-rated Brazilian has caught the eye of Premier League duo Spurs and Chelsea in recent months, and put in two sparkling performances against the Blues in the Champions League this season.

Italian giants Inter had also been rumoured to be interested in moving for the 24-year-old, who has openly stated his desire to move to a bigger club, but they have now pulled out of the equation.

Marco Branca, the club’s sporting director, told Sky Italia: “It’s not down to where we are in the table whether we make signings in January, there are other factors to consider.

“At this moment in time, there’s no way we’ll be investing in January for other reasons.

“It’s the same situation in many other industry sectors. We’re in an economic crisis.”
