FA Cup Final: Chelsea v Liverpool, Wembley, May 5

Chelsea are bidding to win their seventh FA Cup on Saturday when they take on Liverpool but which side is going to emerge triumphant?

Roberto Di Matteo was appointed as interim head coach of the Blues on March 4. During this time, the Blues have won 11 of the 16 games he has been in charge of, drawing four and losing one.

This run of form included a stunning 2-2 draw against Spanish giants Barcelona in the Champions League semi final second leg, where the Blues played for the majority of the game with 10 men after captain John Terry was sent off.

The west Londoners are going into the game after a 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle on Wednesday with Papiss Demba Cisse scoring two outstanding goals.

The Italian is bidding to become the third man to win the cup with the Blues as a player and a manager after Gianluca Vialli (1997 and 2000) and Ruud Gullit (1997). The latter was player-manager in that final success.

The Italian has a final pedigree, scoring in the 1997 final inside the first minute as against Middlesbrough. He also scored the winner against Aston Villa in 2000.

The west Londoners have won the cup three times since Di Matteo retired 10 years ago with the club lifting the trophy in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

Their opponents Liverpool have won the famous trophy seven times with the last one coming in 2006 against West Ham.

That final was regarded as one of the greatest as the Reds were 2-0 and 3-2 down before Steven Gerrard levelled in second half stoppage time as the match went to penalties, where they triumphed 3-1.

In the same period from March 4, Liverpool have been inconsistent, winning five, losing five and drawing one.

Their most impressive result was a 3-0 victory over Merseyside rivals, Everton, with Steven Gerrard scoring a hat-trick.

The Reds are going into the final after a 1-0 defeat at home to Fulham on Tuesday, with Martin Skrtel scoring an own goal.

The Reds have already had a trip to a Wembley final this season, winning the Carling Cup on penalties against Championship side Cardiff City.

This season, Chelsea are guaranteed to finish above Liverpool in the Premier League table, who are in battle with fierce rivals Everton for seventh spot.

However, the Reds have beaten the Blues twice this season, once in the league and once in the Carling Cup.
