Transfer news: Aaron Martin has joined the Eagles

Southampton defender Aaron Martin has joined Crystal Palace on loan for the 2012/13 season.

The 22-year-old made 17 appearances for the Saints last season, scoring twice and it is hoped that Martin can pick up valuable experience in the Championship.

“This will be a great move for Aaron in terms of his development at Southampton Football Club,” said Southampton manager Nigel Adkins.

“He has done ever so well for us so far, but he needs to be playing on a regular basis to continue to develop.

“He has a long-term contract here and we see a bright future for him, but to keep progressing he needs to be playing regular football, and he will get that at Crystal Palace.

“They play good football, and it will be a fantastic environment for him to go into and continue to improve.”
