Transfer news: Wigan Athletic striker Arouna Kone has said that a move to Crystal Palace would appeal to him.

The Ivory Coast international enjoyed a mixed season with the Latics, winning the FA Cup - their first ever major trophy - but then suffering relegation to from the Premier League.

The Eagles moved in the opposite direction as they ended their eight-year exile from the English top flight with a 1-0 win over Watford in the Championship Play-Off Final.

Palace boss Ian Holloway is also being linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Blackpool’s Matt Phillips, both of whom he managed at previous club, while there has also been speculation about a move for West Ham’s Carlton Cole.

Kone, who was touted as a back-up had the Hammers not landed record signing Andy Carroll, has hinted that a switch to Selhurst Park appeals to him.

“You always have ambitions as a footballer, and I don’t intend to play in the English second division,” he is quoted in The Sun.

“I’ve had plenty of approaches. I can’t reveal the names of the clubs.

“But Crystal Palace have gone up, and from the moment a club is in the Premier League that is good for me.

“I’m under contract with Wigan for two more years.

“But if there is an offer that is good for both me and Wigan I will seek to leave.”
