Club rocked as manager quits after nine years at Victoria Road

John Still has quit as manager of Dagenham & Redbridge to take over at Conference side Luton Town.

Still had been at the Daggers helm for nine years and took the club up from non-league all the way through to the Football League, steering the club into League One with a 3-2 play-off win over Rotherham United at Wembley in 2010.

But the 62-year-old has opted for pastures new and joins the Hatters on a reported three-and-a-half year deal worth £200,000 a year.

Still will take charge of Luton in their match at Braintree Town tonight and will be announced as manager at a press conference at Luton at 1pm.

Daggers have put coach Wayne Burnett in temporary charge until the end of the season and will take charge of their League Two match at Capital One Cup finalists Bradford City tomorrow night.

A club statement read: “Dagenham & Redbridge manager John Still has decided the time is right to end his nine-year stay at the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Stadium and will take over this afternoon as manager of Luton Town.

“John had two offers on the table for his services and was given permission by the board of directors to talk to Luton Town at the weekend.

“He has thought over the proposal from the Blue Square Premier side and has decided to take up the new challenge.

“The Daggers board was initially shocked and disappointed on learning of John’s decision, but once they realised that it was his wish now to move they quickly decided that to stand in his way would have been wrong given his service to the club.

“For continuity, and in recognition of tremendous work he has already shown, the club have today appointed assistant manager Wayne Burnett as the interim manager until the end of the season.

“Wayne’s first game will be on Wednesday for the trip to Capital Cup finalists Bradford City.”
