View from the River: Fulham’s half-term report

In the grand old style of “everybody else does it so why not me” I thought it high time to do a half term report.

It’s certainly not been a dull first half of the season so read on for the highlights and lowlights.

What’s been happening: So far so....ok really. Our home form has continued to be good with wins over Liverpool, Arsenal and, of course, QPR being particular highlights. We still can’t win away, although the draw at Chelsea and the near win at Norwich at least show we are getting closer....I hope. Otherwise we seem to be heading the right direction and although the Europa League ended earlier then many of us hoped you won’t find too many fans too upset with the team or the way we’ve been trying to play.

How’s the teacher (boss) been getting on: Post another managerial upheaval at the start of the season the players have taken a bit of time to get used to Jol’s way of thinking and style. There definitely seems to have been a few pupils talking behind the teachers back but the recent improvements seem to show the players are warming to Jol’s way of thinking and we are more enjoyable to watch as a result.

Who is making the grade: To watch it has to be Mousa but for results it (as it is every year) is Dempsey.

Watching Dembele and Ruiz on the ball is fantastic but that boy Clint just keeps on popping up with crucial goals.

Six in the league and twelve overall has made a massive difference in a team that haven’t scored as often as they would like. Mind you, if Ruiz carries on improving as he has recently then he may well be pushing Dempsey for class prefect by the end of term. Kerim Frei deserves special praise for stepping up and really looking the part in the last few weeks.

Who is failing the class: Nobody has put in any shockers although my guess is that Etuhu, AJ and a few others (Bobby??) may be moving on before too long. Not everyone (especially Jol) has been jumping for joy with Zamora over the season as he has consistently seemed to struggle for fitness but at the moment he has little real competition for the lone striker role.

Grade: B- but there is potential for an A pupil if Jol can continue the recent improvement. Add in a quality defensive midfielder and a goal scorer with a midfield of Dempsey, Ruiz, Dembele and Frei alongside our Hangeland marshalled defence and that really would be a team going places.
