Bat backs keeper to win Spurs fight

France captain Hugo Lloris has what it takes to succeed at Tottenham, according to his former goalkeeping coach at Lyon.

Lloris was signed ahead of the transfer deadline in an £8 million deal.

However, Les Bleus coach Didier Deschamps indicated the goalie’s position as France number one would be under consideration if the goalkeeper was not able to dislodge American veteran Brad Friedel between the posts at Spurs.

That, though, should not prove an issue, according to Joel Bats.

The Lyon coach told L’Equipe: “He is one of the best three goalkeepers in the world. Hugo could play against any player in any league.

“Now, if he can help Tottenham to the next level, it could be a springboard towards a bigger club.”
