Striker demands team give their all in their remaining five matches

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has told his team-mates to forget about Monday’s defeat to Norwich City and ensure they finish the season in style.

Spurs have won just one of their last eight league matches and although they still occupy the final Champions League slot, Newcastle United’s win over Swansea City means the Magpies are level on points with Harry Redknapp’s side, while Chelsea are two points behind in sixth.

Tottenham would have been hopeful of collecting all three points against the Canaries after Defoe cancelled out Anthony Pilkington’s early strike, however Elliott Bennet struck mid-way through the second half to earn the Norfolk outfit the victory.

“In the second half the game got stretched, the game got open and they created a lot of chances, it was a frustrating day,” Defoe told the club’s official website.

“In games like this it’s important to get the second goal and Gareth hit the crossbar and we had one or two chances in the box, but it just didn’t fall for us.

“I think it’s important to regroup now and everyone has to stick together. We’ve had a fantastic season and we just need to think about how we’ve played before to win games.

“We’ve got to keep working hard, there are so many important games to play. We just need to try and get as many points as we can.

“We’ve just got to keep it going and try and forget about this result.”

Tottenham face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final this weekend, while their next Premier League game is against QPR at Loftus Road on Saturday, April 21.
