Spurs poll: Is Redknapp still the right man for Tottenham?

With the FA opting for Roy Hodgson over Harry Redknapp, Tottenham’s manager looks set to stay at the helm at White Hart Lane – but is that good news?

Redknapp is currently on course to guide the Lilywhites to a top-four finish for the second time in his three full seasons in charge – the other being a fifth-placed finish.

Having led Tottenham into the Champions League for the first time ever in 2010, the 65-year-old oversaw a run to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition, including victories over Inter Milan and AC Milan.

He has also produced two FA Cup semi-finals and a Carling Cup final during his time in north London - albeit losing all of them - while Spurs have been tipped as title challengers at various stages of the last two seasons.

However, Tottenham’s form has also dipped alarmingly in the final third of the last two campaigns, badly undermining the club’s progress.

Last season, Spurs only won one league game out of 10 between February and May – costing them their second successive season in the Champions League – and it took a home win over Blackburn Rovers yesterday to avoid an identical record this campaign.

Tottenham may be fourth this morning, but a tally of nine points from a possible 30 has surrendered a commanding 10-point lead over Arsenal.

That is relegation form and, following three straight defeats against Norwich, Chelsea (in the FA Cup semi-final) and QPR, a growing number of Spurs supporters were calling for Redknapp’s head.

Yesterday’s victory over Steve Kean’s Rovers has lifted the mood, but a seemingly simple stroll to a third-placed finish has nonetheless become a three-way battle for the fourth spot – which may not be enough, given Chelsea’s involvement in the Champions League final.

Redknapp has taken the brunt of the fans’ frustrations, and his tactics, formations and lack of squad rotation have all been under the microscope since Spurs’ collapse began at the end of February.

Having bemoaned the prospect of losing their manager to England two months ago, a number of Tottenham supporters had begun to see Redknapp’s seemingly inevitable departure as a welcome opportunity for a change.

So what do you think?

Are you relieved that England have overlooked Spurs’ manager and left him to continue his mission at the Lane?

Or would you like to see Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy change his manager in the summer anyway, and end Redknapp’s reign in north London?

Your views:

@Jack_Bagley : ‘I think many people would be lying if they said they hadn’t started to warm to the idea of HR leaving’

@Sean H88 : ‘A focused Redknapp without the England cloud hanging over [him] is the best choice. Didn’t see anyone complaining when we were 3rd by 10 [points]’

@entercm : ‘He should go. Don’t think Levy is happy about the news from the FA. Hard to sack him if we make the Champions League though’

@Deanowa1 : ‘Redknapp to stay! A couple of strong signings and we contend for the title!’

@adamnathan : ‘Next season is a write-off if he stays. We need squad rebuilding if you look at their age – HR is not going to do that’

@RobinClark14 : ‘We are now consistently challenging for the a Champions League spot and still some moan. Before HR took over we were bottom’

@nad_THFC : ‘We definitely need a change. Harry’s taken us as far as he can but he won’t win us big trophies which the club is capable of’

@PauloPelle94 : ‘We were fighting for the title before Capello resigned and were out of reach of our London rivals… I say stay’

@d_levy : ‘I suspect he’d have been fired after the QPR game if they didn’t think Harry was England-bound…’

@chris_mooreSG : ‘People won’t know what they had until he goes. Can’t fault the results overall, it’s the media soundbites which frustrate’

@_theBOUNDER : ‘Levy will be gutted. He’ll already have made plans to replace HR, and now to follow through with them he’ll have to sack him’

@markbradbury72 : ‘Oh my days, can not believe people are even thinking of replacing Harry, and replace him with who exactly? #sostupid’

@muhammad_c : ‘Redknapp is tactically clueless, time for a change’

@trickymotown : ‘I feel a slight sense of relief at the news to be honest! 100 % behind Harry! Time to concentrate on the job in hand!’

@gamray : ‘He’s making a mess of the squad and alienating the fans. I’m convinced it’s only getting worse from here’

@Petecatalyst : ‘no change for me, he’s the best we’ve had for decades. More pleasure than pain this year. Stay and build’
