Crawley Town manager Richie Barker admitted that Met Police gave his side a scare.

The Red Devils led 2-0 with 20 minutes left thanks to Josh Simpson and Billy Clarke but Alan Tait ensured a grandstand finish with seven minutes remaining.

The Sussex side held on to move into the second round but Barker thought it should have been more comfortable.

“They pushed us all the way, but we should have done much better in the first half,” he said.

“They were difficult to break down and we had to look for that little bit of quality to score.

“At 2-0, we dropped off. I don’t think anyone covered themselves in glory today, other than the fact that we’re through to the second round.”
