Garry Cook still regrets welcoming Uwe Rosler into the “Manchester United Hall of Fame”

Former Manchester City chief executive Garry Cook has revealed that his blunder involving City legend and current Brentford manager Uwe Rosler is one he still regrets to this day.

Cook was inducting the German into City’s Hall of Fame in 2009 when he mistakenly said the former striker had played for rivals Manchester United.

Fans at the function jeered the former Nike marketing man after he announced: “I’d like to welcome Uwe Rosler into the Manchester United Hall of Fame.”

And the former chief has earmarked this as one of the incidents that “will be his nemesis that he will carry forever.”

He told the BBC: “Making a mistake with Uwe Rosler, my biggest concern was if I had dishonoured Uwe Rosler or the supporters’ club.

“I deeply regret making a mistake. But I’m also a great believer that if you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying hard enough.”

Rosler, in his first season as a manager in English football, guided Brentford to ninth place in League One.
