AFC Wimbledon defender Callum McNaughton could return for the Dons in October according to the club’s physio Mike Rayner.

The former West Ham man suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in March but is set to start light jogging in July.

“The way the injury is progressing, Callum is definitely a possibility to return in October,” Rayner told the club’s official site.

“He should be starting to do a bit of light jogging by mid-July and then we are looking at a 10-12 week running programme for him to get him back into training.

“He is making great progress and has done excellent in his recovery. Callum has come to terms with the injury and his spirits are high.

“We broke his recovery programme into achievable goals and he is definitely meeting them.

“It looks like he will be back in the minimum six months from when he had the operation in April, rather than nine months, which is the length of time it can be for that type of injury.

“He can do all the cardiovascular stuff now by using the bike, stepper and the rowing machine.

“If anything, we might have to hold him back so that he does not come back too soon.”
