Transfer news: The Liverpool manager has confirmed that the club has made an enquiry for Clint Dempsey
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed their interest in Fulham’s Clint Dempsey, after a day of intense transfer speculation and confusion over the USA forward’s future.
Rodgers’ statement came after Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, mistakenly claimed that Dempsey had signed for the Merseysiders on their website yesterday. The claim was later withdrawn.
“Clint is a player we’ve enquired about, it is as simple as that,” Rodgers said.
The 29-year-old scored an impressive 23 goals in 46 appearances for Fulham last season, and although he has only one year remaining on his contract, Fulham are keen to extend his stay.
“Ian Ayre [Liverpool’s Managing Director] has spoken with the club to see what the position is. That is where we’re at,” Rodgers continued.
“He’s a very talented player but we don’t like to talk about other clubs’ players.”
