Fulham star Brede Hangeland was delighted to have had a longer rest with Fulham not competing in the early stages of the Europa League.

The Whites had already started their march to the group stages this time last year and the defender is grateful for not having to go through that again.

“We appreciated having a bit longer off this year,” he said.

“Last year it felt like I didn’t really have a break so we’ve had a good rest from football and now we’re ready to go again.

“Training is going well so far. Everyone is in good shape and is working hard so things are looking well.

“You do look forward to seeing your team-mates again. It’s nice to get away but we have a good atmosphere and a good group here so it’s always nice to come back.

“Although it feels like we were here just last week - I suppose because we’re here so often throughout the year - so it’s nice to come back and find everyone fit and well so we’ll just crack on from here.”
