Transfer news: Mark Schwarzer wants Clint Dempsey to stay at Craven Cottage
Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer hopes the Cottagers can resist interest from Liverpool and keep hold of unsettled USA forward Clint Dempsey.
Dempsey took no part in Fulham’s pre-season training camp in Switzerland and is reportedly keen to join Liverpool, who have admitted they are interested in the 29-year-old.
But Schwarzer, 39, says he and his Fulham teammates are desperate for Dempsey to stay.
“You’re always in danger of losing your best players,” Schwarzer told Talk Sport.
“When you’ve had a season like Clint had it’s understandable there’s going to be interest from big clubs.
“We hope as players that he stays because he’s a top quality player, he’s a great guy and he brings so much to us,” he continued.
“It’s up to the club and him to sort things out and hopefully he does stay, but it’s out of our hands.”
Dempsey, who has also been linked with Arsenal, scored 23 goals in 45 games for Fulham last season.
