Fulham manager Martin Jol says he is unsure whether he will send young defender Matthew Briggs out on loan this season.

The 21-year-old left-back struggled to break into the Fulham first team last season and was sent on loan to Peterborough to gain first team experience.

But Jol says the youngster’s impressive performances in pre-season could persuade him to give him a chance at Craven Cottage.

“Matty needs games but I need cover as well,” he told the Fulham Chronicle.

“In pre-season he’s looked very good, so we will have to think about that in the next couple of weeks.”
