The presence of West Ham stars Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll at Kempton Park’s eight race card on Thursday brightened a cold and misty evening.

The ex-Newcastle duo, who both excelled for the Hammers in the 1-0 victory over their former club at St James’ Park last Sunday where Nolan scored the winning goal, enhanced the night for racegoers as they signed racecards and had their photos taken with punters.

The pair undoubtedly added to the experience of those present as they mingled with the Kempton Park crowd on a chilly evening that was highlighted by the victory of the Clive Cox newcomer Dance Express who impressed with the manner of her victory in the seven furlong Class 6.

The latter races were notable for three winners who share the name George Baker.

George Baker the jockey won the finale on Good Luck Charm. Earlier the equine George Baker, who is trained by the Manton bound handler George Baker, won the one mile Class 5.

In other news, trainer David Bridgewater reports that his stable star, The Giant Bolster, is set to reappear in the £200,000 Betfair Chase at Haydock next week enroute to the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day.

“The Betfair Chase is the likely starting point for The Giant Bolster,” Bridgewater said. “He has been all right since he came back from his summer break and is in good form.

“He had a good season last year. I wasn’t surprised by his run [when second] in the Gold Cup. I said before the race that he would finish in the first four and he did.

“I don’t know if we are the horse everyone has to beat as it depends on a number of things, but it’s down to the horse now.

“We have got the same campaign mapped out as everybody else. After Haydock, it will be the King George and then the Gold Cup.”
