Officials at Wolverhampton confirmed this morning that racing will go ahead today, less than 48 hours after they were forced to abandon Saturday’s card after four races because of snow.
News that the West Midlands track has beaten the freeze brings some respite to punters following the abandonment of a host of other meetings at the weekend.
Ffos Las, Sandown and Wetherby on Saturday and Fontwell, Kempton and Musselburgh yesterday were all casualties of the bad weather.
“The course was covered with about three inches of snow on Sunday morning but we decided to blade that off during the afternoon,” Wolverhampton clerk of the course Fergus Cameron told the Racing Post this morning.
“Temperatures stayed above freezing last night and as a result racing goes ahead, with temperatures anticipated to reach 4Celcius.
“We will continue to work on the track during the morning,” he said ahead of today’s eight-race card where racing is set to commence at 2.20pm.
Meanwhile the BHA has added an extra fixture at Wolverhampton this week with news of a six-race card that starts at 2pm tomorrow.
Racing is also scheduled for Ayr at 1.30pm today, but Market Rasen and Sedgefield, who were both scheduled to race on Tuesday, have already abandoned.
