The Addicks were held to a 1-1 draw at St Andrews
Charlton manager Chris Powell believes that his side deserved to beat Birmingham in their Championship opener.
Leon Cort had given the Addicks the lead eight minutes from time but Nikola Zigic scored with virtually the last kick of the game to give the Blues a point.
“We certainly deserved to win the game,” he told the club’s official website.
“I know we’ve got 45 games to go but I think my team certainly put down a marker, not to other teams but for themselves and for our supporters all wondering what its going to be like in the Championship.
“I know it’s early but you need to instil your belief and confidence straight away and from minute one we played out part in a really pulsating game. And succumbing to a late, late equaliser is tough.
“But it’s our first point. We are on the board and we go into Tuesday’s game with real good heart. There shouldn’t be any disappointment as we really displayed what Charlton is all about today.””
