Former QPR man is confident O’s can do well

Experienced midfielder Martin Rowlands believes it’s only a matter of time before Orient turn their disappointing start around.

The O’s have failed to pick up a point from their first three games, but the 33-year-old, who made his debut in last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Crawley, said: “Only three games have gone and a lot of the other teams have played four.

“We have missed a home game against Hartlepool which, say you win, you are not sitting where you are sitting now are you?

“It’s a false dawn, when five to 10 games have gone, that’s when you can start to see where the season will start to pan out.

“Obviously, we have had three tough games and it will be another tough one at Swindon next weekend.

“But when you look in the dressing room there are a lot of people in there who are confident we can do well.”

Rowlands believed Orient played well enough to take something from Saturday’s game.

“I’m very disappointed, I thought we deserved something, we defended well and battled well,” he said.

“We had plenty of the ball, but we are gelling together still with a few new additions and I think things will come.

“We had a chat in the dressing room after the game and we are positive.

“We are disappointed to come away with nothing. We conceded one goal and we conceded one goal at home to Stevenage.

“Obviously, the problem at the moment is that we are not putting the ball in the net.

“If you put the ball in the net in a couple of those games, then obviously the results are different and that’s what we are going to work on. We have had a chat and I’m sure things will come good.

“It’s helpful to have a free week, you can work on a few more things and the manager and coaches will have their ideas to try and get into us now for the Swindon game.”

Although the former QPR man has only signed a short-term contract he is pleased to be back in football.

As for the longer term he said: “We will have to wait and see what happens, it’s up to the management.

“I’m just happy to be part of something and to be back playing.”
