Dagenham & Redbridge manager John Still pleased with display of Kevin Maher despite his second half sending off.
Dagenham & Redbridge boss John Still hailed his side’s belief after 10-men Daggers held on to claim a welcome three points at Oxford last night,
With 21 minutes to go, Kevin Maher was shown a second yellow card in his first league start since January, but they defied the odds to come away with a victory to propel them up to 15th in the League Two table.
“When we went down to 10 men our organisation, effort and determination was fantastic,” said Still.
“In the last 20 minutes Chris (Lewington) has only had to make one save, a very good save and every credit goes to the rest of the players.”
Still was frustrated at seeing his side being reduced to 10 men, as the Daggers boss was set to bring Maher off before receiveing his second yellow card.
But despite his dismissal, the Victoria Road chief felt the 36-year-old former Southend United man had the right effect on his inexperienced team-mates.
“I thought we played really well and we pushed Kevin in probably a little bit too early,” added Still.
“It was crazy though because we were just about to take him off before he got sent off. But he gave us that little bit of experience that we lack.
“All round, we scored three and on another day it could have been four or five. We responded well from them making it 2-1 to score another ourselves.”
