Daggers boss John Still was delighted with the impact of his substitutes in Saturday’s remarkable 2-1 win over Accrington Stanley

Boss John Still felt the rare luxury of a having a substitutes bench brimming with talent and fully fit players to choose from enabled Daggers to come from behind and gain three precious points against Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

For so long this season, Still has had to juggle an injury crisis and has often had his hands tied with team selection.

But the Daggers boss was able to introduce Billy Bingham at half time to stifle the threat from Accrington, before bringing on Josh Scott and eventual goalscorer Brian Woodall to change the game at the other end of the pitch.

And Still believes having the opportunity to influence the outcome from the bench proved the difference.

“We’re in a situation now where we have changes on the bench,” he said. “I look around and see Josh Scott and Brian Woodall we can bring on, players that have been starting games this season.

“Accrington played completely differently to how we expected, so we made a change at half time and put Billy Bingham on.

“They had a roamer in midfield, which gave the players ahead of him a bit of freedom. I thought they did it really well, so we put Billy in the hole, which stopped them building attacks and they didn’t have great height which made it difficult for them to create much.

“It also enabled us to win the ball higher up the pitch and we started to stretch them.

“We created a great one-touch move down the right-flank, which finished with Abu Ogogo shooting wide, but from that moment I could see we would get chances and the goal when it came was a good goal.

“When you score that late there’s always the feeling of another goal coming as we were so dangerous in the second half and thankfully it did.”
