Karl Robinson has believes that the first ever meeting between AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons has the potential to be one of the biggest FA Cup second round ties in history.

His Buckinghamshire side thrashed Cambridge City 6-1 last night to book a date with the phoenix club formed after the original Wimbledon Football Club were relocated and renamed in 2002.

The League Two Dons will visit stadium:mk in early December after they beat York City 4-3 in extra time on Monday and the animosity felt from the south London side towards the Milton Keynes outfit is set to ramp up the emotion of the occasion, with some fans threatening to boycott the match.

Robinson insisted that his side will give AFC the utmost respect and he apologised for any offence caused after he annouced he’d danced around his living room when the tie was originally drawn.

“Certain people took offence to that, but there was no offence meant,” Robinson told Milton Keynes Citizen, adding: “It was purely a case of being so excited about the tie. I also got excited about the ties against Blackburn and Sunderland.

“It’s about how we conduct ourselves now and in the meantime. I’m sure both teams will conduct themselves in a very professional manner. The greatest cup competition in the world has produced a very historic moment in round two.

“I spoke with their secretary last night and we showed each other tremendous respect and I’m sure that will continue.

“We’re looking forward to it, and I heard the Wimbledon manager come out and say his dressing room were excited by it. What a wonderful stadium. This was built for big days and it’s going to be one.

“This is something the football world has been waiting for. It will be special. It could be the biggest ever second round draw in FA Cup history.”
