AFC Wimbledon’s new assistant manager Neil Cox, who played as a defender for Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Watford and Cardiff has admitted that the defence is the first area the new management team are going to look at.

The former Leek Town boss is number two to Neal Ardley with Simon Bassey remaining as first-team coach after taking temporary charge following the departures of Terry Brown and Stuart Cash.

“That’s where we’re going to look at,” Cox said. “We went to watch the game the other night and spotted one or two things.

“The two centre halves have been out injured. We’re going to defend from the front and that means everyone is going to track back.

Cox revealed that the trio sat down and discussed their vision for the club together.

“We want to do a good job for the club,” he added. “The three of us have sat down and had a good chat about it.”
