Newbury racecourse is offering free admission to all racegoers for tomorrow’s lucrative card that was re-scheduled from last Saturday because of snow.

The Berkshire track was set to stage an eight-race fixture that included the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase and Grade 2 Betfair Denman Chase, only to be forced to abandon on the eve of the meeting.

However the British Horseracing Authority has been quick to react and rescheduled a seven- race card that commences at 12.15 on Friday.

“Following the abandonment of racing at Newbury on Saturday, the British Horseracing Authority, in conjunction with the Levy Board, has granted Newbury a replacement fixture to be staged on Friday February 17,” the BHA confirmed in a statement.

“The major races lost from [last] Saturday’s card will be rescheduled.”

The news has been welcomed by trainers that include champion Paul Nicholls who is intent on getting a run into his leading Champion Hurdle contender Zarkandar before the Festival.

“As long as they are all fit and well, then all the horses I was going to run at Newbury last Saturday will turn out on Friday – and that includes Zarkandar,” Nicholls said.

“I would not be overly concerned if a lot of my horses had to go straight to Cheltenham; I can get them fresh, fit and well at home. But it is a different story for horses that haven’t yet run this season, so Zarkandar will run.”

The revised running order for tomorrow’s Newbury card is:

12:10 Betfair Super Saturday Chase (Game Spirit Chase) Grade 2 Cl1 2m1f

12:40 Betfair Denman Chase Grade 2 Cl1 3m

1:15 Betfair Hurdle (Handicap) Grade 3 Cl1 2m110y CH4

1:50 Betfair. Don´t Settle For Less Novices´ Hurdle Cl4 2m110y

2:25 Betfair Supports Walking With The Wounded Handicap Hurdle Cl2 3m110y

2:55 Betfair Novices´ Chase (Registered As The Scilly Isles Novices´ Chase) Grade 1 Cl1 2m4f
