Marshall: They all did great for me

Romford Raiders player-coach Danny Marshall paid tribute to his squad at the club’s end of season awards night.

AJ Smith was Marshall’s own choice for player of the year, while Matt Turner earned the vote of his teammates and Billy Phillips claimed the supporters prize.

Turner was also named best forward, as Tyrone Miller took the best defenceman prize and Phillips was given a ‘Heart of Romford’ award.

And Marshall said: “I had a few players in mind, but AJ played consistently well throughout the season.

“He turns up, he doesn’t say too much and lets his actions speak for him. If everyone was like that it would make my life easier!

“Matt deserves everything going his way. They were two good awards to win.

“He had a very good season and plays well with AJ.

“Tyrone did a great job for me. He played nearly every game and doesn’t take many penalties, which is a big factor at the back.

“Bill’s a great kid and a great talent, no doubt about it.

“He had a great season and to score as many goals as he does as a defenceman is hard to find.”
