Show stopper at Forest Edge

17:08 11 May 2012

Forest Edge owners Steve and Penny Garrett and organiser Zoe Sharpe ran a wonderful show last Saturday.

There were riders of all ages presenting a wide range of horses and ponies in the classes and despite the cold and miserable day plenty of riders came to the show supported by friends and family.

The show held a number of qualifiers, including Ponies UK, BSPS, Royal London, VHS and Equifest as well as qualifying classes for the EQ Life Wayland Show Working Hunter Championships, which were well supported.

Despite the high level of classes, the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, particularly in the working hunter arena, where everyone commented on how friendly and fair the judge Mr P B Wilson was. The weather became unpredictable as the day progressed and soon dark clouds loomed and it was only a matter of time before the heavens opened.

For those involved in the indoor classes there was some shelter from the cold and rain, however outside parents and riders made use of ponies’ rugs for warmth and protection from the rain.

Riders who will go through to the EQ Life Championship at the Wayland Show include eight-year-old Alice Watt riding Aislaby Johannes, who won the M&M WHP Open Cradle Stakes and Mixed Height classes. Also qualifying are Emily Sanderson, 12, who travelled from Skegness to compete, riding nine-year-old Rivervalley Reese; Anna Cole, riding Ashbrook Ashley; Molly Harris riding Fairy; Eleanor Fairy and Temoo Little Diamond; Jemima Herbert and Far and Square; Jemima Herbert, riding Lord of the Rings; and Charles Chadick, riding Lancer.
