A great fun day was enjoyed by all at Thetford Chase Pony Club’s pre-Christmas show at Overa Farm Stud, which attracted mainly younger riders, competing in both novelty and normal jumping classes.

Emily Miles, riding Bru, won the 50cms Beginners class, with Sally Watson and Hetty Boo coming first in the Open at the same height.

The Horse and Hound class was highly entertaining for everybody. Competitors completed a course of jumps, left their pony with a helper and rushed off with their dog to jump a shorter course, with the entire round against the clock. Each dog had a different take on jumping the 50cm fences which caused much amusement – over, under, or through, very fast, really sedate, or waiting to be carried over, and even trying to take the handler in another direction. The wagging tails said it all, and the two judges up in the box were besides themselves with laughter.

The winner was Harriet Smith on Pendock Nightingale (with Dotty the dog), and a prize for the most entertaining dog was awarded to Toni Fracksen-Offen’s Dingo. Harriet also won the 60cm Open. More entertainment followed in the Sack Race when, after completing the jumping section, riders climbed into a sack and went as fast as they could down to the finish line to stop the clock. Lauryn Canham and A Little Bit of Luck were the winners.

A lot of effort had been put into the outfits for both ponies and riders in the Fancy Dress, and competitors in the Best Turned Out did extremely well in presenting their ponies, themselves and their tack considering the mucky conditions outside, with Robyn Slaney and Showman’s Midnight Desire taking first place.

The Accumulator was won by Lauryn Canham, and Amber Lawrence won the Two-Fence Challenge on Ballad.
