Surrey team director Chris Adams has demanded that his side are clinical throughout County Championship matches after witnesses poor first day performances all too often this season.

In their last outing, the south Londoners struggled with the ball on day one as Somerset plundered almost 450 runs at the Kia Oval.

Surrey host Warwickshire at the same venue tomorrow and Adams is wary about facing a side who already have three wins under their belt this season.

“One area that we do have to improve is how we play on the opening day of matches because we have now put ourselves on the back foot on a couple of occasions by not starting games well,” he said.

“That is something we will focus on as this week will be a real challenge against an excellent Warwickshire side who have been the form team in the division.

“We are excited about this week and are focused on being clinical for all four days of the game. If we do that then we will give ourselves the best opportunity to win this game against Warwickshire.”

Surrey: Hamilton-Brown (capt), Davies, Rudolph, Roy, De Bruyn, Maynard, Jordan, Batty, Lewis, Meaker, Dernbach, Linley, Edwards.
