Nina Bircham started the weekend in the 50m freestyle and then later, joined Eleanor Chick in 50m butterfly. For the boys, Robert Thurtell competed in 50m butterfly and achieved his target of beating the 30-second barrier.

The competition held this year at Basildon involved swimmers that had earlier taken part in Olympic trials and all three Beccles swimmers looked at home in the tough 50m pool, putting in great swims.

Also there were two other Beccles-connected swimmers. Jenny Beevor was third in the 800m freestyle and Jenny Seaman, now at the UEA, won her 100m and 200m butterfly races.
